BIOGRAPHY
Elle Burchill lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. Her videos might best be described by 3 categories: poetic personal cinema, experimental documents, and performance video, however, the boundaries often overlap. She usually works with a hand-held camera using it as a telescope, a magnifying glass, a mirror. She is inspired by the unexpected and accidental and her works often explore the fragility of our bodies and circumstances. Her videos have screened at cinemas, galleries and festivals including: White Box Gallery, NYC; Lucca Film Festival, Italy; Scope Art Fair, NYC; Director’s Lounge, Berlin; Verge Art Fair, Miami; Harvard Film Archives; Anthology Film Archives; Loris Gallery, Berlin; Participant Inc.; Ocularis; Berkeley Art Museum/Pacific Film Archives; the Phatory Gallery, NYC; Light Industry; Issue Project Room, Monkey Town; vbrooklyn Festival; the Chicago Underground Film Festival, and Cesta International Film Festival, Czech Republic. Her work also appears on the "For Life against the War…again, a Collective Outcry" DVD (Filmmakers' Coop 2007) and on www.jonasmekasfilms.com 365 Day Project (DAYS 196, 241, 352). Elle Burchill is a graduate of the University of Virginia and was born in Pittsburgh, PA
